Long Words is a word game operated by Matthew McCarthy. These Community Rules explain the safety, conduct, and service rules for the Long Words iOS app and related Long Words web pages, including invite links, support pages, privacy pages, and community pages.
Please read these Community Rules together with the Long Words Privacy Policy and Apple's Standard EULA.
1. Acceptance of Community Rules
By downloading, opening, accessing, or using Long Words, you agree to these Community Rules. If you do not agree, do not use Long Words.
If you use Long Words for someone else, or allow a child to use Long Words on your device, you are responsible for that use and for making sure these Community Rules are followed.
2. Apple Standard EULA
Long Words uses Apple's Standard End User License Agreement for the app license unless a different license is shown by Apple for your download. These Community Rules are additional service and safety rules for Long Words; they are not a custom EULA and are not intended to replace Apple's Standard EULA.
You can review Apple's Standard EULA at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/.
3. Accounts, Usernames, and Age-Aware Access
You can use some Long Words features without signing in. Human multiplayer games, friends, invite links, persistent human chat, reporting, blocking, synced stats, and certain account features require Sign in with Apple and a Long Words account.
Usernames and avatars must be appropriate for the game community. Do not use usernames that are offensive, abusive, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, impersonating someone else, misleading, or designed to evade moderation.
Long Words uses age-aware feature access. Depending on your declared age range, device support, regional requirements, or whether you decline to share age range, some features may be limited or unavailable, including human games, human chat, subscriptions, player search, invites, ads, or generated chat.
4. Human Games, Chat, and User Content
Long Words allows players to create usernames, send human game chat, invite players, add friends, play words on a shared board, and submit reports. This content is user content.
You agree not to submit or use Long Words to share content that:
- Harasses, threatens, bullies, abuses, or targets another person
- Is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, exploitative, or graphically violent
- Contains slurs, severe profanity, or attempts to bypass safety filters
- Impersonates another person or misrepresents who you are
- Violates someone else's privacy, intellectual property, or legal rights
- Promotes scams, spam, malware, illegal activity, or unsafe behavior
- Interferes with the game, the backend, other players, or service security
You keep whatever rights you have in your user content, but you give Long Words permission to store, process, display, moderate, transmit, and use it as needed to operate the game, provide safety tools, respond to reports, and support players.
5. Reports, Blocks, Moderation, and Removal Rights
Long Words may provide tools to report chat, usernames, players, or other activity, and to block or mute other players. These tools are meant to support a safer game community, but they are not a guarantee that all inappropriate content will be detected or removed immediately.
Offensive, inappropriate, abusive, or suspicious usernames, actions, reports, chats, invites, friendships, games, and related content may be reviewed, hidden, removed, limited, or preserved for safety and recordkeeping at any time. Long Words may suspend, restrict, or ban accounts or devices that violate these Community Rules, abuse the service, evade moderation, or create risk for other players.
Moderation decisions may rely on automated filters, third-party services, manual review, player reports, or a combination of those methods. Filters can make mistakes.
6. Subscriptions and Purchases
Long Words Plus is an optional auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple's in-app purchase system. Plus may remove ads, unlock additional access to human games, unlock Past Riddles and Word Lab, remove daily free-play limits, or provide other benefits shown in the app at the time of purchase.
Subscription prices, trial availability, renewal periods, and included features are shown in the app before purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled through Apple at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, or as otherwise described by Apple in your region.
You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account subscription settings. Long Words cannot directly cancel a subscription for you, issue App Store refunds, or change Apple billing records.
7. Ads for Free Users
Free, age-eligible users may see ads, including interstitial ads, when using Long Words. Ads are not intended to be shown to users whose declared age range is under 13 or whose ad-consent status does not allow ad requests.
Advertising availability, ad frequency, consent requirements, and eligibility may vary by region, device, age range, subscription status, app version, and server-side configuration.
8. Biblio, Generated Chat, and Game Advice
Biblio is a fictional game character. Some Biblio messages may be generated by on-device or system-provided AI when available, and some may come from prepared fallback text. Biblio's messages are for entertainment and gameplay flavor only.
Generated or automated content may be incorrect, incomplete, repetitive, awkward, or inappropriate despite filtering. Do not rely on Biblio for professional, legal, medical, financial, safety, or other serious advice.
9. Dictionary, Profanity, and Third-Party Dependencies
Long Words uses word lists, dictionary lookups, profanity filters, app-store services, backend services, ad services, push notifications, and other third-party or platform services to support gameplay and safety features.
Word validity, definitions, commonness scores, profanity detection, chat filtering, ads, subscriptions, push notifications, and invite links may be inaccurate, delayed, unavailable, or changed over time. Long Words may update word lists, remove words, block words, change scoring behavior, or adjust filters when needed for gameplay, safety, legal, or product reasons.
10. Acceptable Use and Service Security
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, attack, overload, scrape, spam, or interfere with Long Words services
- Use bots, automation, exploits, fake accounts, or abusive scripts
- Bypass paywalls, rate limits, age gates, moderation tools, safety filters, or access controls
- Attempt to access another player's account, games, device tokens, chats, reports, or private data
- Use Long Words in a way that violates applicable law or the rights of others
11. Service Availability and Changes
Long Words is provided on an as-available basis. Features may change, break, be limited, or be discontinued. Backend services, multiplayer games, ads, subscriptions, invite links, chat, generated content, notifications, definitions, and other online features may be interrupted or unavailable.
Long Words may modify gameplay rules, scoring, limits, free access, Plus benefits, chat behavior, moderation systems, dictionary behavior, or server-side settings over time.
12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Long Words is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. Long Words does not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free gameplay, perfect moderation, accurate definitions, accurate generated content, successful delivery of notifications, or preservation of every game, message, invite, stat, or setting.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Matthew McCarthy and Long Words will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, lost goodwill, service interruption, or user content posted by others.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Community Rules limits rights that cannot legally be limited.
13. Changes to These Community Rules
These Community Rules may be updated from time to time. The latest version will be posted at https://longwords.net/apps/long-words/terms. Continued use of Long Words after changes are posted means you accept the updated Community Rules.
